Let’s Talk About the One Task You Absolutely Loathe

We all have that one task that haunts us—the one we avoid until it’s an emergency, the one that makes us question our life choices.

For some, it’s onboarding clients. For others, it’s sending follow-ups or scheduling calls.

If your business were a sitcom, this task would be the annoying neighbor who always pops in uninvited

But what if you could automate it? Just set it and forget it, like a self-cleaning litter box for your business (someone please send me one of those!)?

Automate One Recurring Task

Automation is like hiring an unpaid intern who never complains, takes coffee breaks, or disappears mid-project (yes, completely unethical, but really damn cheap).

Here’s how to get started

Step 1: Identify the Culprit What’s the most soul-sucking, repetitive task you do? The one that makes you roll your eyes so hard you see the back of your brain?

  • Sending client onboarding emails
  • Following up after discovery calls
  • Reminding clients about payments and deadlines

Pick one. The most annoying one.

Step 2: Find Your Automation Sidekick Not all automation tools are created equal. Here’s how to choose the one that won’t make your life more complicated than it already is:

  • Zapier: For the detail-obsessed who like to build workflows with the precision of a master strategist.
  • Dubsado: For the minimalist who just wants to set it up once and let it run (although warning, there’s a big learning curve with this one).
  • Gmail Canned Responses + Calendly: For the “let’s keep this simple” crew who just want one tiny automation to lighten the load.

Step 3: Test Drive & Tweak Try it for a week. See if it actually saves you time or just shifts your frustration elsewhere. Adjust as needed—because this isn’t about perfection, it’s about getting one annoying thing off your plate.

Tailor It to Your Energy Level

  • If you’re a generator (Human Design): Automate the task that drains you the most so you can focus on the things that actually light you up.
  • If you’re burned out: Start small. Automate a single email. No need to go full robot.
  • If you thrive on structure: Build a full workflow with backups, just in case.

This Week’s Challenge

  1. Choose one task that drains your soul.
  2. Pick a tool that matches your vibe.
  3. Set up your first automation.

Automation doesn’t have to be overwhelming. One small tweak can save you hours, and hours add up to more time for the things that actually matter.

Here’s to working smarter (without losing your mind). You’ve got this!

Until next time,

No BS business wisdom, geeky insights, and practical magic. My emails are like grabbing tea with your business-savvy (and slightly nerdy) bestie—expect smart strategies, streamlined systems, and the occasional pop culture reference. Whether I’m helping you simplify your processes, set better boundaries, or just finally get your sh*t together, you’ll walk away with something actionable every time. No fluff, no overwhelm—just real talk, real solutions, and maybe a little chaos (the fun kind).
